7. TRIM EXCESS FABRIC AND SMOOTH THE EDGES. Use a sharp utility knife with a fresh blade and a straight edge to trim excess fabric from the ceiling, along molding, and carefully around outlets, switches, and vents. Use a putty knife behind the blade to hold the edge in place and protect the walls and trim. If the fabric is snagging or pulling, it’s time to change the blade. Apply starch over the edges with a 2½” angled sash brush and smooth any frayed threads with your fingers.

8. APPLY SUBSEQUENT PANELS. Make a note of the pattern and where you need to cut the next panel to allow it to line up. Repeat steps 4–7 with the second panel, matching the pattern with the first. Repeat this process with the remaining panels. If the room you’re working in isn’t plumb or level (which most aren’t), you may notice the pattern shifting along the ceiling. Just account for those changes when you’re cutting the panels so you don’t come up short! You should always have at least a little fabric to trim along the ceiling to create a nice, straight line. The panels will dry in a few hours.
